What Counts as a Custom Project
Contract Connect's standard categories — kitchen, bathroom, roofing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and the rest — cover most home improvement work, but not every project fits neatly into one box. A custom project is anything that doesn't map cleanly onto a single standard category: a combination of repairs across several parts of the house, a one-off build that isn't a typical deck or fence, storm or water damage that touches multiple systems at once, or a renovation with an unusual scope you can't easily describe in a short form.
Rather than forcing you to guess which category to pick or answer a long list of questions that don't quite apply, the custom project path lets you describe the work in your own words and attach photos, so we can see exactly what you're dealing with.
How the Photo-Based Estimate Works
On the estimate page, selecting "Custom Project" skips the category-specific question set that our other service tiles use and instead asks you to describe the project and upload photos. Our system reviews the photos and description to generate an estimate, the same way it would for a standard category, just without forcing your project into a predefined question flow that may not fit.
Good photos make a real difference here. Wide shots that show the full area, close-ups of any damage or existing conditions, and a few sentences describing what you want done all help produce a more accurate first estimate before we confirm the details on-site.
Projects That Span Multiple Trades
Many custom projects involve more than one trade working together — for example, water damage that requires plumbing repair, drywall replacement, flooring, and painting all in the same area, or a renovation that combines electrical, carpentry, and finish work. Because Contract Connect is the general contractor for the life of your home rather than a single-trade specialist, we coordinate these multi-trade projects directly instead of asking you to hire and schedule separate contractors for each piece of the work.
What to Expect: Our Process
Describe the Project & Upload Photos
On the estimate page, choose "Custom Project," describe what you need, and attach photos of the area or issue.
Instant Estimate
Our system reviews your description and photos and generates a detailed estimate based on what you've shared.
Price Confirmed On-Site
Before any work begins, we visit your property, confirm the scope in person, and lock in the final price — important for custom work where photos alone may not capture every detail.
Saved to Your Home's Record
Once the project is complete, it's saved to your home's permanent record for future reference, resale, or follow-up work.
Why Start With an Estimate
Custom projects are, by definition, harder to price from a phone call alone since there's no standard template to fall back on. Starting with photos and a description lets us give you a real, itemized starting point immediately rather than requiring an in-person visit just to produce a rough number. From there, the price is confirmed on-site before work begins, so you always know what to expect before committing to the project.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of projects should I submit as "Custom"?
Anything that doesn't fit cleanly into a single standard category — multi-trade repairs, unusual builds, storm or water damage affecting several systems, or a renovation with a scope that's hard to describe in a short form. If you're not sure, submitting it as a custom project with photos is a safe default.
Do I still get an instant estimate for a custom project?
Yes. Instead of answering category-specific questions, you describe the project and upload photos, and our system generates a detailed estimate from that information. We then confirm the price on-site before any work begins.
What if my project involves more than one trade?
That's a common reason to use the custom project path. Contract Connect coordinates multi-trade work directly as the general contractor on the job.
